Getting to Ferrara

Ferrara Is Italy’s city of bicycles! A small walled medieval city in Emilia- Romagna. It sits closely to the Po river and is located between Venice and Bologna.

The city offers a lively historical centre with a basilica and castle. It has winding streets of places to eat, drink and local business. Bike rentals are available so you can get around like a local. 90% of them own a bicycle.

See an art exhibition in the Piazza del Diamante. Built by Biagio Rosetti in 1495, walls of the Palazzo are covered in the embossed with carved stone. The diamond form plays with light and shadow across the entire façade.

Nearby is Parco Massari. Here you can relax and admire the gigantic Lebanese cedar near the entrance to the park. Its long and thick branches are supported by metal stilts a Dali painting.

In the center of Ferrara is the impressive Castello Estense which was built in the 1300s. Encircled by a turquoise moat, the castle is an imposing structure of towers and impenetrable walls.

Walking around Ferrara :The station is a 15 minute walk under the shade of a tree lined avenue. The small city is ideal for exploring on foot as many areas are pedestrianised.

Use Public Transport to get from the train station to the center.  Alternatively to walking, the no. 9 bus departs from the train station. If you get off at Cavour Giardini, you will arrive at Castello Estense. See the local bus route here!
