Swapping a plane for a train has one main drawback – what would have been a 3 hour flight is now an 8 hour journey. It is true, trains do take longer but don’t be put off because I have a great idea for how to get around this problem. I tried it myself and even made it work to my advantage!
After all this blog serves to help make train travel easier and more accessible, so here is a tip on how to turn a long train journey into an opportunity.
Break up a long journey with a stop off half way. If you have time to spare, take a break from your journey and see an extra place and stretch your legs.
Obviously, if you have luggage with you, your suitcase is an unwanted guest! Being able to wander with ease and explore an area is much easier without your heavy luggage so put it in a secure drop off point. Check out local luggage storage options and you can really get the most out of your adventure.
On a 4 hour trip home to Rome from Venice we added a stop off in Ferrara for a few hours, It was on the same line and the trains were regular so it was really easy! We arrived in Ferrara and found a bag storage drop off a few meters from the station with Radical Storage. We booked our bags in there and then, dropped our bags straight away and made our way into the town. Free from our bags we could quickly make our way into the town within the time window we had given ourselves. We rented bicycles and got to see as much of the place as we could while stopping off for lunch and getting an extremely delicious gelato before in time for our train home.
Breaking up journeys shouldn’t cost you much more, if at all. When researching your tickets you can open the journey itinerary – have a look at the stops and see if there is a place that might suit you and book your tickets in two parts, incorporating your stop. Also check on Radical storage that they have a luggage option for this location.
How to Use Radical Storage
Opening radicalstorage.com in your web browser or downloading the app; you can book your bag in in just a few simple steps. Find your location and find the site that best suits you via their map feature. Book in your bag. Its that quick and also economical. While Radical Storage offers insurance while your bags are in their custody, I always recommend not leaving anything in your luggage that you cannot afford to lose such as documentation and money. Locking your bags with a small lock is a good idea to give you that extra reassurance so you can really enjoy your time.
