What is it?
Are you looking for something to eat near Termini? Come and explore the famous food hall Mercato Centrale situated inside Termini Station.
The hall is an impressive building. A brick vaulted ceiling towers over the entrance and the seating area is enclosed by 18 different stalls selling fresh and delicious food to suit just about every palate.
Where is it?
The Mercato Centrale is located close to the trains and upstairs from the metro. If you are getting something before your departure you only have a couple of minutes to get between the two.
Starting in the the departure hall of Termini Station, passing under the departure and arrival boards and towards the binari (platforms). The platforms from 1- 29 spread out infront of you, showcasing the frecce, italo and regional trains! If you are facing the trains, turn to your right and walk towards the wall where there is a sign for ‘Binari 24-29’. Here you can turn left and follow the short walk along the edge of the station hall.
To get to the Mercato Centrale you need to enter through the doors of the department store Coin. This section will lead you through the cosmetics, fragrance and clothing sections until you pass though the other side into an area of information desks and car rental points. The walkway leads you to the doors of the food hall. The sign over head is in white and bold read, set against the classic roman brick style.
If you are coming from outside the station, you can find the entrance on Via Giovanni Giolitti.

Golden bellies of arancini lined up next to canoli bursting with ricotta cream next to bowls of fresh salads next to a wine bar with an extensive cantina. Each bottegha has it’s own independent kitchen where chefs wrangle their ingredients accordingly. Tourists and locals wander the food hall to browse the menus and order whatever and however many things they choose. Wine, beer or cocktails can be ordered separately from the bar and deserts, gelatos and coffees can be ordered after.
We filled our tray with arancini, vegan poke bowl a delicious bean burger and loaded with dressed fresh vegetables, a beef burger and a couple of glasses of white wine to wash it down in the holiday spirit – just as the rule in airports apply to a morning cocktail, so do train stations
On our last evening in Rome, we enjoyed the authentic atmosphere of the city, people swirling around us. It buzzed with the movement of people, and in true Italian tradition, good food was the occasion.
We left the food hall and walked the five minutes to the platforms. People darting in all directions pulling luggage, dragging at arms, ushering pets. People focused on their own destination. Thoughts of times, platform numbers: destination names hung invisibly in the air. Focusing on getting home to their families or like us, embarking on an adventure.
